Dillwyn Bartholomeusz

Dr Dillwyn Bartholomeusz is a clinical psychologist with over 34 years of experience, working in both the public and private sectors. His private practice at Hills St Gosford occurs Monday – Saturday, with the exclusion of Wednesdays. He is also available via Telehealth. Working with adults and couples, he has experience with a wide variety of clinical presentations. He also has degrees in human physiology and theology that add a further dimension to his clinical work.

Trained in CBT at Macquarie and Sydney Universities, Dr Bartholomeusz has also developed an understanding of psychotherapeutic problems based on hypothesis testing during his clinical work. His experience has directed him to understand the profound impact that early life events have on adult functioning. There is an abundance of research evidence that adult physiology remains altered, many years after various forms of early life stress. This was the focus of his research at Newcastle University. Often these early life stressors remain invisible to the client, as there is a natural propensity to normalise life experience during our developing years. In line with this work, he has come to understand the profound and lasting impact that early life stress can have on psychosocial development. These events (including covert emotional neglect) can predispose individuals to develop psychopathology related to self-image, mood, and identity formation as well as predisposing the individual to various forms of unhealthy coping strategies in adult life. Coping strategies such as eating disorders, self-harm and substance abuse. He believes that effective remediation of these problem behaviours requires the resolution of these precipitating causes when present.
