Dillwyn Bartholomeusz

Dr Dillwyn Bartholomeusz is a clinical psychologist with over 30 years of experience, working in both the public and private sectors. His private practice at Hills St Gosford occurs on Thursday, Friday and Saturday mornings. He is also available at Wahroonga on Tuesdays, and via Telehealth at other times. Working with adults and couples, he has experience with a wide variety of clinical presentations. He also has degrees in human physiology and theology that add a further dimension to his clinical work.

Trained in CBT at Macquarie and Sydney Universities, Dr Bartholomeusz has also developed an understanding of psychotherapeutic problems based on hypothesis testing during his clinical work. His experience has directed him to understand the profound impact that early life events have on adult functioning. There is an abundance of research evidence that adult physiology remains altered, many years after an early life stress. This has been the focus of his research at Newcastle University. Often these early life stressors remain invisible to the client, as there is a natural propensity to normalise the events during our developing years. In line with this work, he has come to understand the profound and lasting impact that early life events have on psychosocial development. These events predispose individuals to develop psychopathology related to self-image, mood, and identity formation as well as various forms of unhealthy coping strategies in adult life such as eating disorders, self-harm and substance abuse. He believes that effective remediation of these issues requires the resolution of these precipitating causes.
